Projektbeschreibung der*des Nominierenden

Professor Schlupp is a leading expert in the field of evolution and maintenance of sexual reproduction. He investigates one of the few all-female fish species, the Amazon molly (Poecilia formosa). This unusual fish produces identical clones as offspring. Interestingly, these females mate with males from two other species. Their sperm triggers the development of the embryo, but does not contribute genetically. Professor Schlupp investigates this enigmatic mating system with a wide array of methods. During his stay in Germany, he will work specifically on the genetic basis and consequences of bisexual vs. unisexual reproduction in his model system, using novel approaches of evolutionary genomics.
